HISTORY

There are some interesting words in the dictionary; many defined in the most refined way and others in a simple manner. And then there are those words which can't be. They are like an emotion of sorts and given a little human thought, they become a part of you. Your existence starts stemming from them.

I don't need to remind you of the number of times you've read or come across the word 'History'. It was there on our notebooks in elementary school as an example of a seven letter word. In middle school our teachers told us about its somewhat important relation with the past. But it was in senior school that the chronology and dynasties started falling into place.

That's it. That is pretty much the scope in particular and the definition in general of what history is.

According to many, sadly, yes. It's about the wars of succession fought and the number of females won in a battle. And the moment you get to know the name of the winning side, your knowledge of history comes to a halt.

But it's not so.

History is not chronology and dynasties anymore. It's not wars and women anymore. They form a crucial aspect, but that is not the only aspect. A professor of history would in all probability not be able to answer the number of women Akbar had in his harem. The facts of history will be much better answered by the quiz masters and the people at the University of Internet and our superbly knowledgeable and dangerously armed journalists. But there is one thing which a professor or a student of history would possess in way more dimensional quality than all the pseudo historians can...

A sense of history.

A sense of the passing time.
